Course Overview: The case studies in scientific computing form an essential part of the MSc course and take place weekly in Hilary term. During term four topics are studied, each over four weeks, and all students must look at at least one. Each week there will be a one hour class to describe some aspect of the topic and tasks will be set. Part of the class will also be used to discuss the previous week's tasks. Students will be able to complete all the tasks using Matlab and the numerical techniques learnt in the Michaelmas term core Numerical Analysis courses or described in detail in the classes. The assessment takes the form of a short report for each topic. This should primarily consist of the material from the weekly tasks along with an explanation of the problem and interpretation of the results. The problems studied will vary from year to year.
