Course overview:
The Case Studies in Scientific Computing form an essential part of the MSc course and build on the skills learnt in Practical Numerical Analysis, and the core numerical analysis courses taught in Michaelmas Term. Students work in small groups and study a problem, or range of related problems, which can be tackled using numerical techniques. The case studies last for 4-5 weeks, and subsequently students will be required to individually extend the project beyond the group work. The problems studied will vary from year to year but recent projects have involved adaptive solvers for ODEs, solving inverse problems, use of neural networks, and a variety of methods for the numerical solution of PDEs.
