Course overview:
Students will build on the skills learnt in the Mathematical Modelling classes by addressing a mathematical modelling question in depth (a case study). They will work in small groups under the guidance of a tutor to take a problem from its initial statement, through its mathematical formulation and analysis, to the stage where a short report is written and a presentation made to the rest of the class. The case studies vary each year, but recent examples include: modelling water flow in unsaturated porous media, modelling optimal strategies in cycling races and modelling Alzheimer’s disease treatments.
