Completion requirements
Full printed notes will be provided for the course, including the non-examinable topics (marked with asterisks above). The following books are relevant to the course.
- G. H. Hardy and E. M. Wright, An introduction to the Theory of Numbers (Sixth edition, OUP 2008). Chapters 16, 17, 18.
- H. Davenport, Multiplicative number theory (Third Edition, Springer Graduate texts 74), selected parts of the first half.
- M. du Sautoy, Music of the primes (this is a popular book which could be useful background reading for the course).
- H.G. Diamond and P.T. Bateman, Analytic number theory: an introductory course (World Scientific, 2004). Chapters 1-4, and 6-8 are relevant to this course.
