Week 3 consultation session
  • 2024 paper question 1b(ii): When showing that the ansatz for G satisfies Laplace's equation, how much detail is expected? Would it be expected to have a qualitative answer like this to similar questions in an exam, or does it have to be shown in detail by calculating the Laplacian away from \xi and integrating around \xi?
  • 2024 paper question 2(c, d):  insight on the formation of shocks.
  • The 'method of images' to find Green's functions, and complex variable methods as a whole.
Week 4 consultation session
  • 2022 Q1(b): determining where the solution is uniquely determined by the initial data.
  • 2014 Q1(b-d): particularly calculating Riemann invariants.
  • 2023 Q3(c): the insight behind causality and how to determine the conditions for it to hold.
