Course overview:
The Mathematical Modelling classes form an essential part of the MSc course and take place in weeks 1-3 of Hilary term. The classes introduce the students to the art of addressing real-world challenges using mathematics, with a specific focus on the application area of infectious disease modelling. The classes will mix lecture-style delivery with hands-on building, analysing and solving mathematical models, and interpretation of results. Working in small groups, students will learn how to approach a real problem, how to break it down into manageable parts and how to set up a model that contains the key elements of the problem.
